English ____________________________________________
Editors’ Note:
Well, here
we are celebrating our fifth anniversary of Florida English. It’s been
quite a trip for us, and we’ve come a long way from our humble beginnings as a
mere concept floating on a boat somewhere in the middle of Lake Monroe. Since
2003, we have produced five quality journals, made some good friends, and spread
the word about literature far and wide. Our submissions have grown to include
writers from as far away as California, and we have been mentioned as a
reference in volume 203 of Contemporary Literary Criticism. Just this
year, Florida English became a 501©3, tax-exempt corporation, so now you
can deduct all of your generous donations to us (and more generous donations
will certainly make the FLeng parties more lively). As of last year, Florida
English began sponsoring a coffeehouse poetry/music series at the annual
Florida College English Association conference. Our first foray into that venue
was quite successful, and we’re all looking forward to the 2007 coffeehouse and
continuing into the future. With the great strides that Florida English
has made, we also are looking forward to our next half-a-decade, and we would
like to thank our loyal readers, contributors, and supporters for being a part
of our successful first five years. From our humble beginnings on that boat and
the first few years when the editors had to supplement the production cost of
printing with money from their own wallets, we have come a long way, baby.
Finally, we need to express our heartfelt “thank you” to Florida College English
Association for its generous support and to Ringling College of Art and Design
for a much-needed and appreciated annual donation. See you all in issue 6!
